Mount Karisimbi is an active stratovolcano in the Virunga Mountains on the border between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Karisimbi, one of the Albertine Rift, the western branch of the East African Rift, is the tallest of the eight main mountains in the mountain range, rising to 4,507 meters. On the other side of the Rift Valley, Mikeno, Bisoke, and Nyiragongo surround Karisimbi to the north, east, and west, respectively. The mountain Karisimbi is the eleventh-highest in Africa.
